Unlocking Value Through Intelligent Reuse

Maximising the potential of existing buildings

Maximising the potential of the existing structure of this historic piano factory in Kentish Town was central to success of the project. Careful consideration was given to which elements should be retained, balancing cost efficiency and opportunities to add value by creating space and celebrating its distinctive character.

Key architectural features, including the original façade and generous shopfronts, were preserved to enhance both character and market appeal. The tall shopfront volumes - a legacy of the building’s piano-making past - were sensitively reimagined as duplex apartments, making full use of their impressive proportions.

The conversion and extension of the property into a collection of 15 residential units also required a flexible design approach. Working with an existing structure responding quickly to unknowns as they emerge, while ensuring the results are efficient and commercially viable.

Working collaboratively with the client, design team, and contractor we were able to ensure the client maximised return; crafting distinctive homes in a building of historic interest.
